Virtual Run Club

A group of bloggers that are struggling to stay on schedule. These are their stories.

I was battling a cold this week, but I still managed to get my running in, although it was tougher than usual.

Tuesday: I met my friends for our regular run. I thought I could wimp out after 1 lap around the park if I didn't feel up to it, but I managed to do our whole 45 minutes.

Thursday: I snuck out for a run. Was still sick, but I got a good 45 minutes run done.

Friday: I ran for 50 minutes. My new solution to avoid waking at 4:30 AM to run in the pitch black is to start working at 5:30 AM so I can slip out for a run at 8:00 AM. Telecommuting benefit!

Sunday: Went for a super-painful 15-mile run. My hip hurt, my hydration pack was rubbing wrong, it was hot... but I still did it!  Woo Hoo!!!

Another not-so-good week. I ran on Tuesday, then felt like crap the next three days. I'm not exactly sure what I did, but I tweaked something in my neck and it hurt just sitting and walking. Since I knew I had a race yesterday, I took it easy to make sure I could do it.

Saturday I ran a 5K for Wings. I don't have the official time, but my Garmin said it was 30:00.86. Not bad, not great, but okay for how poorly I've been running lately.

Sorry, I've been MIA for a couple of weeks. I'd been tapering. Ran my marathon yesterday. I'd hoped to finish in under four hours, but finished with 5:15. My first goal was to just finish, so I guess I accomplished what I set out to do.

With that said, I'm not sure what my game plan is now. So, if I don't post for a while it's because I'm taking it easy.

Good luck to everyone running races this fall!

And I have a new training goal: The Vegas 1/2 Marathon on December 6th. After a week of hiatus after the 10 Mile I am back on track. Reluctantly, but no doubt back. This new plan calls for 5 runs a week so we'll see. I'm really more of a 3-4 times a week runner.

Anyway, here's the deets so far:

Run 1: 3.25 miles, speed work
Run 2: 4 miles

3.8 miles outside this morning. I'm getting so frustrated with people! Walkers refuse to share the sidewalk, as though because I am running I am no longer allowed to use it. It's frustrating. Anyone else have that problem?

Tue = 2.5
We rode our bikes to a local park after work to run. It was a nice change of scenery.

Thu = 2.1
No walking. No stitches. Just blissful easy running. This is why I run! I could have gone longer, but I decided to run home and beat the rain instead.

Splits:
mile 1 - 13:47
mile 2 - 12:28
.1 - 9:40 (59s)

I love negative splits! I know must people have a hard time doing them, but its the best way I can run. I hate feeling defeated at the end, but negative splits help me finish strong and I feel empowered!

Sun = Disney's Race for the Taste 10K!
It was an amazing race and I ran it over 6 minutes faster than my previous 10K. Official chip time was 1:15:52. The neatest thing was that my dad and Jason's dad flanked me in the finishing shoot and ran with me to the end. Please read the full race report at my blog for the full details because it was just amazing. And check out my awesome negative splits and the huge sprint at the end!

Anyone else run this race? How did you do? What did you think? Also, a big congratulations to everyone who ran a marathon this weekend. You are all amazing!

This was my goal race and now I'm switching gears training for my 1st 1/2 marathon. I am not sure who is updating the group now, but here are the details for my new goal race:

No four runs this week, but I did run the TC 10 Mile. So MUCH FUN! I felt so strong the whole way and really enjoyed the race. 13 minutes off my time from last year! I'll write the whole report in my blog.

Run 1 - Monday, 5 miles
Run 2 - Wednesday, 3.25 miles
Run 3 - Sunday, 10 miles

Great week. And to boot, I'm on vacation for the week :)

Tue = short run without the watch. My estimate was about 2 miles in 25 minutes.

Thu = 2.6 miles in 34 min with Galloway group. We took a shortcut somewhere and missed a loop so came in short of 3 miles

Sat = 9.7 miles in 2h 10 min = This is a distance PR for me by over 3.5 miles! More details at my blog: http://kitzzyfit.blogspot.com/2008/10/distance-pr-966-miles.html
